JSPHCDA Holds Strategic Meeting to Boost Polio Vaccination and Ensure Successful MR Immunization Campaign Date: August 21, 2025 Venue: State Emergency Routine Immunization Coordination Centre (SERICC) Conference Room, Jigawa State In its ongoing commitment to strengthening immunization services, the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in collaboration with development partners, convened a high-level meeting today at the SERICC Conference Room. The meeting, chaired by the Acting State Immunization Officer (SIO), Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim Kazaure, aimed at reviewing progress and setting the stage for improved vaccination outcomes across the state. ✓Key agenda items discussed include: 1. Update on IBRA: Review of a polio vaccination exercise recently conducted across 26 LGAs, which spanned four days. 2. Review of the MR Implementation Dashboard and National Verification of the MR Microplan. 3. Update on Routine Immunization Performance. 4. Any Other Business (AOB) and Next Steps. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders including Deputy PHC Director, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bulangu; State Health Promotion Officer, Mal. Sani Yusuf Kachi; SEMCHIC Programme Manager, Alhaji Surajo Sulaiman; State Monitoring and Evaluation Officers; and development partners such as NPHCDA, WHO, UNICEF, JSI, eHealth Africa, AFENET, NI-ABAE, IVAC, Sultan Foundation, and Chigari Foundation. House of Representatives Committee on Health Applauds Jigawa State’s Transformative Strides in Primary Health Care During Oversight Mission The Committee on Health of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria undertook an extensive two-day oversight mission to Jigawa State, aimed at scrutinizing, evaluating, and reinforcing the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) at ward-level health facilities. The distinguished members of the committee, under the leadership of their Chairman, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji, assessed critical elements including the procurement of medicines, deployment of medical equipment, infrastructural upgrades, and overall service delivery mechanisms, recognizing that the fund is disbursed directly from the Federal Government through the constitutionally earmarked 1% Consolidated Revenue Fund. Upon their arrival, the committee convened at the Ministry of Health, where they were cordially received by the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa. They subsequently engaged in a strategic dialogue with key stakeholders to deliberate on progress, challenges, and future priorities within the state’s health sector. Guided by the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), Dr. Shehu Sambo, the committee conducted a comprehensive field inspection of two pivotal ward-level health facilities — Madobi PHC in Dutse LGA and Andaza PHC in Kiyawa LGA — to appraise the quality, efficiency, and impact of services being delivered at the grassroots. In attendance during these facility inspections were the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (JICHMA); the PHC Director, Alhaji Hassan Shuaibu Kwalam; the Director of Planning, Research, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Yusuf Bashir Hakimi; and the Director of Administration and Finance, Alhaji Ya’u Sani Kazaure; as well as the PHC Managers and other LGA team members of Dutse and Kiyawa LGAs. The committee expressed profound satisfaction with the standards observed, commending the unwavering commitment of all health stakeholders and the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, whose administration has championed progressive health reforms and monumental investments in Primary Health Care (PHC). On the second day of the mission, the committee, led to the Government House by the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa, held a high-level engagement with the Executive Governor. They briefed him on their findings, lauded his administration’s transformative interventions in the state’s health sector, and presented strategic recommendations aimed at further strengthening PHC systems, ensuring resilience, and achieving universal health coverage. In his address, His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, extended a warm and statesmanlike reception, reiterating his administration’s unwavering resolve to sustain and expand health investments, with 15% of the 2025 budget dedicated exclusively to the health sector. He further highlighted an array of innovative programmes and strategic interventions designed to enhance the availability, accessibility, affordability, and quality of PHC services for individuals, families, and communities across Jigawa State. Flag Off Ceremony of IBRA at Dutse Emir’s Palace Earlier this morning, the flag-off ceremony for the ongoing In-Between Round Activities (IBRA) Polio Vaccination Exercise was held at the Dutse Emir’s Palace. The exercise was formally commissioned by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sunusi, CFR, the Emir of Dutse, who expressed his unwavering support towards ensuring that every eligible child in Jigawa State is reached and protected against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases. To mark the flag-off, His Royal Highness personally vaccinated eligible children with the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) and subsequently finger-marked them as a symbol of commitment to the success of the exercise. In attendance were Alhaji Aminu Danmalam (Danmalandin Dutse and District Head of Aujara), who also serves as the Emir’s representative in healthcare matters, other traditional title holders, the State Health Promotion Officer Mal. JSPHCDA and Office of the First Lady Commemorate 2025 World Breastfeeding Week in Dutse Today, the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Jigawa State, Her Excellency Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, commemorated the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week at Kachi Primary Health Centre, Dutse Local Government Area. Her Excellency was ably represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Usman. The Executive Secretary of JSPHCDA, Dr. Shehu Sambo, who was unavoidably absent due to official engagement, was represented by the Director of Primary Health Care, Alhaji Hassan Shuaibu Kwalam. The event was graced by the Special Assistant to the Executive Governor on Primary Health Care, Dr. Mariya Ibrahim; the Executive Chairman of Dutse Local Government Area, Dr. Sibu Abdullahi; Director of Administration and Finance, Alhaji Ya’u Sani Kazaure; State Nutrition Officer, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi; State Cold Chain Officer, Mal. Yusuf Inuwa; Deputy SERICC Programme Manager, Mal. Saidu Sunusi; wives of the Secretary to the State Government and Honourable Commissioners; the APC Women Leader; and other top government officials and stakeholders. Also present were representatives of key development partners such as UNICEF, CARE International, and others working to advance maternal and child health across the state. In addition, other staff from the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA) were in attendance and played vital roles in planning, coordination, and execution of the event. The Dutse LGA health team and the dedicated staff of Kachi Primary Health Centre also contributed immensely to the success of the occasion through community mobilization, health education, and direct engagement with beneficiaries. Hundreds of breastfeeding women, including newly delivered mothers, participated in the event and benefited significantly from the information shared on exclusive breastfeeding and infant nutrition. As a gesture of support and motivation, gifts—including material items and cash—were presented to selected mothers in the Kachi community who are practicing exclusive breastfeeding. The event reinforced breastfeeding as a life-saving, cost-effective intervention for child survival and development. The state government, through JSPHCDA and its partners, reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening programs that promote maternal and child health, while continuing to empower mothers and families across Jigawa State. Deputy Governor Chairs High-Level Expanded PHC Taskforce Meeting in Jigawa State Today, the Chairman of the State Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care (PHC) and Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel, presided over a high-level Expanded Taskforce Meeting on PHC Service Delivery. The strategic meeting, convened at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Dutse, brought together critical stakeholders from the health sector and allied Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to evaluate progress, deliberate on challenges, and reinforce multi-sectoral efforts aimed at enhancing the quality, accessibility, availability, and affordability of PHC services across the state. Comprehensive presentations were delivered on the state's performance across key PHC service delivery pillars, followed by in-depth discussions, peer learning, and consensus-building on evidence-based strategies to improve outcomes and bridge existing gaps. In attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Mustapha Makama Kiyawa; Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa; Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa; Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abdulwahab; and the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Health, Hon. JSPHCDA and Partners Plan for a Successful Upcoming MR Immunization Campaign In a concerted effort to ensure the optimal execution of the forthcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) immunization campaign, the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in collaboration with key development partners, convened a high-level planning meeting today at the Agency’s conference room. The meeting was chaired by the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Shehu Sambo. In attendance were directors, programme managers, and representatives of leading development partners, including WHO, UNICEF, NEOC, Solina, JSI, NI-ABAE, Sultan Foundation, and Chigari Foundation, as well as the representative of the Emirate Councils, Alhaji Aminu Danmalam (Danmalandin Dutse). Also present were State Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers and other key technical and support staff from the Agency, all of whom contributed to the deliberations with valuable insights. Discussions during the meeting centered around the implementation roadmap for IBRA, updates on missed settlement validation and data compilation, review of the accountability framework, assessment of the MR implementation dashboard, and a discussion of actionable next steps under AOB.
