JSPHCDA and Office of the First Lady Commemorate 2025 World Breastfeeding Week in Dutse
Today, the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Jigawa State, Her Excellency Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, commemorated the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week at Kachi Primary Health Centre, Dutse Local Government Area.
Her Excellency was ably represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Usman.
The Executive Secretary of JSPHCDA, Dr. Shehu Sambo, who was unavoidably absent due to official engagement, was represented by the Director of Primary Health Care, Alhaji Hassan Shuaibu Kwalam.
The event was graced by the Special Assistant to the Executive Governor on Primary Health Care, Dr. Mariya Ibrahim; the Executive Chairman of Dutse Local Government Area, Dr. Sibu Abdullahi; Director of Administration and Finance, Alhaji Ya’u Sani Kazaure; State Nutrition Officer, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi; State Cold Chain Officer, Mal. Yusuf Inuwa; Deputy SERICC Programme Manager, Mal. Saidu Sunusi; wives of the Secretary to the State Government and Honourable Commissioners; the APC Women Leader; and other top government officials and stakeholders. Also present were representatives of key development partners such as UNICEF, CARE International, and others working to advance maternal and child health across the state.
In addition, other staff from the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA) were in attendance and played vital roles in planning, coordination, and execution of the event. The Dutse LGA health team and the dedicated staff of Kachi Primary Health Centre also contributed immensely to the success of the occasion through community mobilization, health education, and direct engagement with beneficiaries.
Hundreds of breastfeeding women, including newly delivered mothers, participated in the event and benefited significantly from the information shared on exclusive breastfeeding and infant nutrition. As a gesture of support and motivation, gifts—including material items and cash—were presented to selected mothers in the Kachi community who are practicing exclusive breastfeeding.
The event reinforced breastfeeding as a life-saving, cost-effective intervention for child survival and development. The state government, through JSPHCDA and its partners, reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening programs that promote maternal and child health, while continuing to empower mothers and families across Jigawa State.
